West LA doesn't have many Chinese food options, and among the options that they DO have, most are over-priced. Mama Lu's is definitely affordable for the big portions.
Mama Lu's was pretty packed, even at 2:30pm on a Saturday. Wait was about 15 minutes when we got there. Typical Chinese restaurant service - good for family style eating. Waiters are bit more rough, but that's nothing out of the ordinary. About 10 minutes after ordering, we got all of our food. They looked amazing, as you can probably tell from the pictures. If you're ever feeling a craving for quick and dirt cheap Chinese food, you can definitely get your fix here.
The cuisine is more Shanghai-influenced, but it covers most typical authentic Chinese dishes you'd find. Three of us went while starving and ordered 7 dishes (lmao), and we left with a whole meal's worth of to-go boxes. Felt like shift afterwards though, but definitely hit the spot.
Not one of the best. A bit too crispy for my taste.
These were pretty bomb. They're Shanghai styled chow mien. They cut the noodles, so you're not constantly slurping them.
Fried green beans. Always a yum.
These were spicy shrimp wontons. Very good. Very filling too.
Deep fried seaweed battered fish. It's basically an Asian twist of fish and chips. They were surprisingly one of the best dishes of the meal. Very good and highly recommend trying at least once.
